    Shona Sculpture

Steeped in the legends and traditions of an ancient African civilization, contemporary Shona Sculpture is a profound expression of the human condition that transcends geography and time. Sculpting with simple tools, these self-taught artists carve stones that illumine with more than 500 color variations. The result creates a diverse body of work with dynamic, spiritual themes that strike deep in the wellsprings of our shared consciousness.

Although many of their pieces are reminiscent of the works by Picasso or Miro, most of these Shona sculptors have never seen the art of the Western world. Inspired by present day events, spiritual beliefs and folklore, the sculpture maintains a direct link to its ancient origins with evidence pointing to carving done centuries ago.

Treasured internationally, the art remains accessible to a wide spectrum of collectors. Experience the art for yourself...

    Bohemian Caesar Crystal

We proudly present a modern collection of Bohemian Caesar Crystal. This Crystal, with its unique use of color flashing ground crystal, celebrates a 600 year tradition originating in the Czech Republic and is well known all over the world for its high handcrafted quality. In the past these pieces were sought after by the Imperial Court in Vienna, and present day customers include the Thai Royal Family and the Royal Palace of Indonesia. Caesar Crystal is rightfully placed under the category of luxury items. It is much in demand worldwide for it’s originality and high artistic value.

The tradition of the glassmaker’s work has been maintained in Caesar Crystal Bohemiae up to the present day. Younger generations of glassmakers inherit the skill of glass working and craft from older glass masters. This prestigious crystal is formed from flint glass, hand blown and hand cut, and possessing a specific, unparalleled hardness and crispness. Each piece requires many hours of experienced and skillful glassmakers’ handwork. The Crystal is showcased in our gallery for your enjoyment and opportunity to purchase.

    Art Show: July 16-18
The Upstairs Gallery at Sand Castle Winery proudly presents James Sturner and Ashley Hendrix, two talented college bound artists. They are both 18 years of age and are graduates of Council Rock North High School. Their art will be on display July 16, 17 and 18 from 11-6pm. The Gallery will be hosting a special open reception for these young artists on Saturday the 17th of July from 1-6pm.

James Sturner plans to attend Tyler School of Art at Temple University in the fall. His work is strongly based on graffiti and street art. “I love how these art forms are so loose and easily accessible.” He uses spray paint as one of his favorite mediums. “It helps create marks ranging from strong, defined lines to light, powdery highlights. By combining spray paint with more traditional mediums such as paint and charcoal I can create a unique feel to my art which combines the freedom and energy of graffiti and street art with the influence of the fine arts.

Ashley Hendrix plans to attend the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. She has received extensive training in figure drawing, portrait painting and anatomical studies by attending workshops offered by private instructors as well as the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. She finds that there is nothing more rewarding than working with the human figure. “What drives me to create art is the fear of forgetting. I strive to convey emotions, relatable situations, or narratives in my work. The story of a person’s life is the most interesting subject I could attempt to portray and certainly worth remembering, as situations and human emotions are universal.

Please join us for a fun weekend with these two young artists and prepare to see the world through the fresh eyes of the youth of today!

And complete your day with a Tasting or Tour of the Winery!

Sand Castle Winery

Sand Castle Winery, nestled on the banks of the Delaware River in historic Bucks County, Pennsylvania, is the purveyor of world class wines with a long and noble heritage. Sand Castle’s founders, Joseph and Paul Maxian, were born and raised in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, a region renowned for wine making before even the Romans ruled the world.

Sand Castle Winery makes all the wines only from its own 100% vinifera grapes. Grape vines planted in rocky soils combine with moderating temperatures of the Delaware River producing ideal fruit for wine making. Our Chardonnay, Johannisberg Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Pinot Noir have been specially selected and grafted for cool climate and rocky soils.
